Illegal money lending – We will help you make the call

We’re proud to announce that we are now an official Stop Loan Sharks access point, following our partnership with the England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) earlier this year.

This means our team is trained and ready to support anyone affected by illegal money lending. If you’re struggling, unsure where to turn, or don’t have access to a phone, computer, or a safe space – you can simply drop into our office, and we will help you make the call to get the support you need.

When can I access your support?

You can visit our office on Ubberley Road in Bentilee any time Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm. You do not need an appointment, you can just walk in.

What is a Loan Shark?

Loan sharks are greedy criminals who prey on people in need of money. They charge high interest rates and often use coercive control, threats and intimidation to keep people paying significantly more than they borrowed, and significantly more than they can afford.

Who are the Illegal Money Lending Team?

The England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) is a government-funded agency set up to identify, investigate and prosecute loan sharks, and to support the people and communities affected.

You are not in trouble if you have borrowed from an illegal money lender, the loan shark is. They are the people committing a crime, not you. If you or someone you know is being targeted by a loan shark, please come in to speak to us, and let us help.
